12 March 2024: Borodino Refight - French Turn 9 Pt 1

All the action from Table 2 is today's activity.

Command Point Allocation Phase

Only one allocation made - Latour-Maubourg gave his command 'pip' to von Thielemann.

Assault Phase

Two assaults are declared: (1) von Thielemann targets the Cossack unit to the north. (2) Rozniecki zeroes in on the isolated Cossack unit to his front.

(1) von Thielemann sighting the small Cossack formation. Unfortunately for them, the Cossacks choose to evade and flee the table.

Lost unit: Cossacks = -2 points

Rozniecki is more fortunate as the Cossacks choose to countercharge.

Firing Phase

Only the infantry close to Utitsa are able to fire. The Russians here are more successful than the Poles who drop to Disordered. The Jagers are still Wavering and out of range while Foch's grenadiers firing arc does not account for von Thielemann's cavalry who have moved their full assault distance.

Movement Phase

Lepel's Westfalians about-turn. Sowinski's artillery unlimber west of Utitsa covering the woods. And Kaminski moves his light cavalry forward to just outside musket range but enough to bother the Russians.

Assault Phase

Rozniecki's Poles hit hard inflicting enough damage to cause the Cossacks to drop to Wavering. They bolt but the Poles pursuit catches them. The Cossacks drop to Broken and are removed from the game.

Lost: Cossack unit = -2 points

Recovery Phase

Only one unit recovers. It does not leave the situation hopeful for Tuchkov however as the image below reveals.

Poniatowski just needs to exit one of his units at the objective to claim this flank for Napoleon.

Next batrep: the assaults on the main defensive works ramps up. Cheers.
