The Late Medieval Balkans
Finished Chapter One. Long-winded in terms of complexity. Covering the region during the late 12th century reveals a rich source for wargaming. Already found enough to get me started for the Eastern European phase of Season 7 of Lion Rampant solo campaign. When that kicks off depends on time availability and enthusiasm.
Learning about old names for modern regions such as what is now mostly Montenegro was once known as Zeta. And the medieval realm of Hum covered areas of Herzegovina and southern Dalmatia. Rich stuff if a historical buff.
The chapter relies on many sources of which the main ones are listed at the end.
But the really exciting find was starting Chapter Two which mainly concerns the Fourth Crusade. Keen to research more about the Norman ransacking of Thessaloniki in 1185 as it's given me ideas for a battle scenario or possible extended campaign. Solo of course.
